An article written by Ken Davidoff from Newsday.com, says that the Padres will explore the market for possible trades for Jake Peavy. If you want C.C. …than Peavy is out of the question. It would come down to one of the two. Sabathia would obviously cost more. Peavy has been pitching in the NL, and has never been in the American League. Sabathia has pitched in both the AL & NL, and has proven himself to be a Cy Young caliber player in both leagues. Peavy had excellent numbers once again this year, but the Padres aren’t getting any better. The team is looking to get younger, and by dealing Jake..they might be able to do that. Jake Peavy isn’t old himself, as he is only 27..but the organization is old in general.
Jake Peavy holds a full no-trade clause through 2010. The Padres would need to contact his agent, Barry Axelrod, to see where he might approve a trade. I wonder who the Padres like in the Yankees farm system. Should be interesting to see if these trade talks go anywhere.
Peavy’s agent says:
“I’m not sure how many teams he would approve, but I have no doubt that he would not be Eddie Whitson [with the Yankees]. He could handle the pressure in New York.”
