Why did the Yankees ever get Kei Igawa? Did they not learn their lesson with Hideki Irabu? The New York Yankees were the highest bidders at $26,000,194, and they signed him at a five-year, 20 million dollar contract on December 27, 2006. To give such a huge contract to such a unproven pitcher..I just don’t understand it. He wasn’t even the best available on the market, (Dice-K was) but the Yankees just felt the need to get anybody just for the heck of it.
Igawa was a huge disappointment in 2007, and he was demoted to Scranton. He was recalled again in September when rosters expanded. In 2008, Igawa didn’t even make the Yankees club out of ST. He got the call when Ian Kennedy got injured, but he was horrible. Since than..he has been pitching in the minors and hasn’t been heard of since. His stats as a Yankees are just hideous. So what were the Yankees thinking?
