Bob Wolfley of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel wrote an article about the MLB postseason ratings this year. Check it out.Why the Yankees!? That’s what you always here. Many people are sick and tired of watching the Yankees on TV, because they are always in the spotlight. Now that they are out of it you don’t here anyone complain, but not as many people are watching postseason baseball. Even if you hated the Yankees, you still tuned in to watch just because you wanted to root against them. I bet it was entertaining for you fans. People don’t think the Yankees are good for baseball because of there heavy spending on superstar players, but that is exactly what draws attention to the sport.
The Yankees are good for baseball, and without them..baseball just wouldn’t be as fun to watch. The division series ratings on TBS were down 26% compared to last year. The 4 games between the Yankees and Indians, were the highest-rated games on TBS. The average rating for a postseason game on TBS is 2.8 this year. The Yankees are in the biggest market in all of sports, and that can explain some of the drop off. BUT the thing is..your not thinking about all of the people who tune in even if they aren’t Yankee fans. The Yankees might be hated by many people, but people are still fascinated with them because of the headlines/tv coverage they get, their success, and all the tradition they have. What I’m trying to say is..Baseball needs the Yankees whether you like them or not. Go Yankees!
