Both Mark Ellis and Eric Chavez said Sunday that the A’s should sign impending free agent Jason Giambi.
Oakland is said to be in the market for a big bat and Giambi hit .247/.373/.502 with 32 homers and 96 RBI in his final season in New York. He was drafted by the A’s and won an MVP award in Oakland before leaving as a free agent following the 2001 season.
It looks like Jason Giambi was well liked back in Oakland. Mark Ellis and Eric Chavez are still with the A’s organization, and they want Jason to return to Oakland. They are in desperate need of a big bat. Giambi is coming off a bounce back year, and the Yankees aren’t looking to re-sign him at all. Giambi put up solid numbers in ’08: .247AVG 32HR 96RBI .373OBP. I think he earned himself another nice contract. The time the Giambino spent in NY was fun. He had ups and downs, with the steroid allegations and his famous mustache. I wish him the best of luck in the future.
