The Yankees had hoped to bring back Larry Bowa as their third-base coach for 2009. But that option fell through Friday when the Dodgers announced that Bowa will return as their third-base coach.
Bowa followed Joe Torre to the Dodgers last offseason but reportedly has a clause in his contract that would allow him to return to the Yankees if desired this offseason. Bowa is loyal to Torre, though, a major reason he would remain in Los Angeles. Bowa did not return calls.
After announcing earlier this month that they would not bring back Bobby Meacham as third-base coach, the Yankees had held out hope of bringing back Bowa. He had a particularly positive influence on second baseman Robinson Cano. Now former Brewers interim manager Dale Sveum is believed to be a candidate for the job.
The Yankees fired batting-practice pitcher Mitch Seone. He was instrumental in Jason Giambi’s resurgence a couple of years ago, and Giambi tabbed Seone to throw to him if he participated in this year’s Home Run Derby at the All-Star Game (he did not).
General manager Brian Cashman did not return a message regarding the firing.
Larry Bowa will be wearing Dodger Blue next year, not Yankee Pinstripes

I’m guessing Dale Svuem is the #1 guy as of now? Not sure who else it could be. They say Willie Randolph wouldn’t take a job as he is still getting paid by the Mets. ESPN reports that Willie declined to join the Washington Nationals either as their bench coach or third base coach. Is Luis Sojo still an option?
