A’s acquire Holliday from Rockies
The Oakland Athletics have acquired star outfielder Matt Holliday in a trade with the Colorado Rockies, SI.com has learned.
I’m not shocked the Yankees didn’t get him, because they would probably have to give up a ton of young talent for him. Also..many said they were out of the race for him. The terms of the trade haven’t been reported. I think Huston Street might be involved, since Fuentes is going to leave Colorado.
UPDATE :2:55PM ET: I think they are stealing Holliday..if its for Street/Gallagher/Buck
The A’s have acquired Matt Holliday from the Rockies, SI.com’s Jon Heyman reports.
No details yet. It’d be an expensive one-year rental for the A’s, but there were rumors that they were involved in the pursuit of the 28-year-old slugger. Huston Street, Sean Gallagher and Travis Buck are among the players we could see going to the Rockies in this deal.
A source told Yahoo! Sports’ Tim Brown that the Rockies would get Carlos Gonzalez, Huston Street and Greg Smith from the A’s for Matt Holliday. Then the Rockies did extremely well and the A’s gave up too much for just one year of a player who has never played at a superstar level outside of Coors Field. Manny Corpas owners should be disappointed if Street is in the deal, as Street would likely close for the Rockies. Smith would jump right into the rotation. Gonzalez could be a candidate to play left field or even center for a year, but everything that happened in 2008 suggests that he needs more minor league time. Nov. 10
