Looks like the Burnett offer was just a rumor, and they are really planning on offering hima 4 year deal, and it won’t be even close to $80M. The news around town is that C.C. is looking at the Dodger’s moves and what they might offer before he makes a drastic decision. It doesn’t look like anyone will come close to the Yankees offer.
Kat O’Brien from Newsday: Yanks didn’t offer Burnett 5 Years/$80M
The Blue Jays already have offered a four-year, $54-million deal to retain Burnett, according to the Toronto Star. The Yankees’ offer is expected to top the Blue Jays’ in average annual value. However, a source shot down a report that the Yankees would offer five years and $80 million. They will not make an opening bid of more than four years or anywhere near $80 million, the source said.
The Yankees’ source said, “We’re just talking parameters.”
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, reached on his cell phone, would not confirm or deny any specific reports. Said Cashman: “I know what we’re doing, and that’s all I care about.”
Graziano has a source who continues to insist the Blue Jays will explore the market for ace Roy Halladay, who has two years and $30MM left on his deal. In that case, he believes the Dodgers are the most likely match. If the Dodgers acquire Halladay, they would focus on Manny Ramirezrather than Sabathia.
Dan Graziano of the Newark Star-Ledger explains why C.C. Sabathiais taking his time while mulling over the Yankees’ six-year, $140MM offer. Graziano believes Sabathia and his agents are waiting to see what the Dodgers propose.
Graziano speaks of “rumblings today that the Dodgers either have offered or are about to offer Sabathia a six-year contract worth between $110 and $120 million.” He believes this could compel the Yankees to increase their offer, just to ensure a ridiculous ($30MM+) gap between the two proposals.

8 more days until pitchers and catchers report
Wait a second. The Jays are thinking of trading Halliday? Did I read that correctly? If so, why are we even thinking of anybody but him? He should be the Yankees ace!
