Hal Steinbrenner made a statement that the Yankees offer wouldn’t be on the table forever. I think some may have taken it a bit to seriously. This is sort of what Hank did with Santana and all. They make these big statements, but they don’t follow through. The Boss’ sons haven’t reached his level yet. haha. George would make decisions right away and stick by them. A deadline may be made, but at the moment nothing is going on. Looks like Sabathia will take his time and make his decision when he feels like it. Only time will tell..
No deadline for CC on Yanks’ offer
The Yankees have not yet set a deadline for their $140-million, six-year offer to free-agent starting pitcher CC Sabathia, and according to someone familiar with their thinking, they have no intention to pull the offer anytime soon.
New Yankees boss Hal Steinbrenner was responding to a reporter’s question when he said, “We made an offer. It’s not going to be there forever.” And all he meant was exactly that. Not forever. It appears now that the Yankees aren’t about to set a deadline — at least not yet.The Dodgers, Giants, Angels, Red Sox and incumbent Brewers all have interest in Sabathia. But to this point, no one has emerged to play in the Yankees’ dollar stratosphere, and they remain the favorite to win the Sabathia Derby.Everyone in baseball is closely watching what’s going on with the Yankees and Sabathia because several other star players could be impacted by where he goes.
Watch out for the Angels…..
Teixeira, Angels could affect CC
On Nov. 22, 2006, the Angels signed Gary Matthews Jr. to a five-year, $50-million contract. On Nov. 21, 2007, the Angels signed Torii Hunter to a five-year, $90-million contract.
That history explains why this could be a crucial week regarding the Yankees’ pursuit of CC Sabathia.
The Angels have said they again want to move aggressively this offseason, and their top target is free-agent first baseman Mark Teixeira. If Teixeira, represented by notoriously methodical agent Scott Boras, doesn’t accept quickly, the Angels could move on and try to sign Sabathia. But if Teixeira does re-sign with the Angels, Sabathia could give up his West Coast dreams and sign with the Yankees.
