It was just a matter of time before some more A-Rod news broke out. A-Rod tested positive for steroids in 2003? Check it out:
In 2003, when he won the American League home run title and the AL Most Valuable Player award as a shortstop for the Texas Rangers, Alex Rodriguez tested positive for two anabolic steroids, four sources have independently told Sports Illustrated.
Rodriguez’s name appears on a list of 104 players who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball’s ‘03 survey testing, SI’s sources say. As part of a joint agreement with the MLB Players Association, the testing was conducted to determine if it was necessary to impose mandatory random drug testing across the major leagues in 2004.
When approached by an SI reporter on Thursday at a gym in Miami, Rodriguez declined to discuss his 2003 test results. “You’ll have to talk to the union,” said Rodriguez, the Yankees’ third baseman since his trade to New York in February 2004. When asked if there was an explanation for his positive test, he said, “I’m not saying anything.”
Phone messages left by SI for players’ union executive director Donald Fehr were not returned.
I honestly don’t know what to say. This was the one guy most people believed in. They thought he was doing it with his god given talent, and now this will tarnish his career forever. It really does. I don’t know how this is going to shake down, but it’s not good at all. Spring Training is around the corner, and it couldn’t have come at a worse time. Right after Torre’s book calls him “A-Fraud”…we hear that he used steroids. Not only that, but he is recently divorced. So, what’s next for Alex? All I know is that Spring Training is going to be a CIRCUS!

7 more days until pitchers and catchers report
Is nothing pure? This is so upsetting. The reason I was able to tolerate Arod mania is that we knew one glorios day he would pass Bonds up and have done so on his superior talent and drive. Chances are he still will end up the home run king but what does it even matter now? Some day the top two home run hitters will be cheaters. Can we void his contract? Even if we can we probably shouldnt I guess? I still want him but I want him for much less. One who disrespects the game as Arod apparently has doesnt deserve to be the highest paid. This season was supposed to be a celebration… F*ck.
This is definitely going to be frowned upon, but will Yankees fans forgive him like we did for Pettitte? Andy was a beloved Yankee. At the same time..Alex was never really accepted as a “True Yankee.”

I honestly don’t believe Yankee fans will forgive him. He still hasn’t “achieved” “True Yankee status.” Plus, Pettitte came out and admitted the usage after the Mitchell Report was released. There is a trend that players who admit usage (ex. Pettitte) are forgiven whereas players who don’t (ex. Bonds, Clemens, McGwire, Palmeiro) are still thrown under the bus and remain unforgiven.
So like 100+ players test positive and Arod gets singled out as the only one? what a joke.
The results were supposed to be anonymous but someone leaked A-Rod’s name to the media.
Plus, technically, his “no comment” comment was on Thursday, so he had two days to inform the Yankees and other officials.
I’m as much of a Yankees fan as the next guy, but this is truly disappointing.
I agree. It’s very disappointing. Let’s see what happens within the next few days. This is just the very beginning.

In my opinion, when its all said and done, A-Rod is what has been wrong in our clubhouse. When he came was when we truly started our long slide down down down – he has never really fit in – he is not comfortable, and we are not comfortable with him – he never has fit, and his life is now seemingly falling apart – I dont know what will happen but I hope he leaves NY – the attention on him is too much for everyone, him included – even with stars on a team there has to be balance – it is, after all, a team sport – Jeter knows this – Arod does not – he draws attention to himself – in my opinion – hes got to go – and I thought this BEFORE the steroid issues – whew -
