Andy Pettitte did just what he needed to do. He pitched 6.2 strong innings, and allowed the Yankees to get to Halladay. His pitching line was: W, 6.2IP 4H 1R 1ER 4BB 6K.
Phil Hughes recorded the last out of the 7th inning with no problems at all. Hughes came on in the 8th, but had trouble finishing the inning. Girardi made a quick move to the pen, so Mariano could complete a 4-out save. Mo got the last out of the 8th inning with ease. He ran into trouble in the 9th, but nailed down his 31st save of the season. Rivera’s ERA now drops to 1.96.
and the offense…
Damon, Teixeira, and Matsui all went yard today. Alex Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Robinson Cano also went 2-for-4. Derek Jeter went 0-for-4 on the game, as his average drops to .319.
It’s crazy to think the Yankees hit 3 home runs of of Halladay tonight, and they now have won two games in a row off of him.

Great win. I was really worried about this one. Can’t wait for the four games against the Red Sox!
Great win for the Yanks last night. Getting to Halladay early wa huge for us.
The only problem I have is Joe’s reliance for Mo to get the four out save. With Hughes in there, I think Joe needs to show more confidence that he can get out of any jams that he creates.
In other words, leave him in for the whole eight inning until he proves he can’t do it.
I agree to an extent BobbyO but it would be a real shame to give up a lead having not used Mo when the opportunity presented itself.
Cody Ransom has been designated for assignment. Thank God!
