The Yankees got through the first round, which was a major barrier that they weren’t able to cross in recent years. They will now play a best-of-seven series against a team that has haunted them the past few seasons. The Yankees won two of three in the last series of the season against the Angels. I think that was very important, as it served as a confidence boost to the players and they realized that they could beat them.
The Angel’s style of play is “small ball”, and the Yankees better be prepared for it. They are going to try and take advantage of Posada when he is behind the dish, and they are going to run all over him when they get the chance. It’s all going to start with good pitching. If the Yankees can get good pitching performances from their starters, than it will limit the baserunners for the Angels. They produce runs like no other team in baseball. Not everyone can rely on the long ball and get away with it.
Let’s hope that this year’s postseason has a different ending. It would be really nice for the Yankees to overcome their past struggles against the Angels.
Some key points…
- Alex Rodriguez is the hottest hitter in baseball right now. He can carry the team on his back and dominate the game.
- The whole starting rotation passed their test in the first round of the playoffs, and they can match up with anyone in baseball.
- Phil Hughes and Johnny Damon both played pretty bad in the first round. I expect much bigger things from them in the ALCS. I don’t think they could be much worse.
