Andy Pettitte got into trouble in the 2nd inning, and it looked like it might be a short night for him. That wasn’t the case though, as Andy battled through it and delivered 6 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits. His final line was: W, 6IP 5H 4R 4ER3BB 7K. Pettitte won his Major League-leading 17th postseason game.
Joba Chamberlain tossed a 1-2-3 seventh inning and Damaso Marte hurled a nice eighth. Girardi went to Hughes to close out the game, as Joe thought it would be a good idea to give Mo the day off. That didn’t happen though. Hughes’ postseason woes continued, as he gave up a solo blast to Carlos Ruiz. Girardi turned to Rivera for the last outs and he slammed the door with ease.
A-Rod, Swisher, and Matsui all went yard on the game. Alex belted the first video-reviewed home run in World Series history. Rodriguez’s homer was his sixth of the postseason, tying a Yankees club record owned by Bernie Williams in 1996. Andy Pettitte got a run-scoring single to center to tie up the game at 3-3 in the top of the 5th inning. It was awesome. It was the first RBI by a Yankees pitcher in the World Series since Jim Bouton in 1964. The offense really unloaded in this bandbox and it was fun to see them take the crowd out of the game.
You have to feel confident up 2-1 in the series with our ace taking the mound tomorrow night. He will be opposed by Joe Blanton, as the Phillies don’t want to throw Cliff Lee out there on three days rest. If they win tomorrow, no matter what…they can’t go home down in the series

2-1 series lead and CC on the mound in game 4!!! I like our chances, even though the middle relief pales in comparison to when I was rollin’
Really Ramiro? You think you’re relief stuff was good? Please, there will only be one set up man for Mo, and that’s me.
Look to third.
Throw to first.
Look to third all you want Jeff…I’ll still take home out from under your nose
I see you’ve posted a box score. Nice work. I’ve just posted my detailed scorecard and box score for game 3 of the World Series. Check it out. Scorecards and box scores for Games 1 and 2 are also posted.
Petitte didn’t drive in Swisher as much as Swisher forced the issue. He started running full speed the second Andy made contact, and even at that he just beat the throw. Any hesitation at all and Nick would have either been standing on third, or out by a mile. Nice baserunning there, Swish!
Final Score: Yankees 7, Phillies 4
Is that a prediction for tonight’s game? I can’t see C.C. giving up 4 runs, though.
Just wait until tomorrow. Giants crush the Eagles and the Yankees take a 3-1 lead. Wouldn’t that be the worst day in Philadelphia sports history? It’s going to happen whether you like it or not?
I have enjoy watching these Yankees games of World Series of 2009 the team seem be carry it past teams karma with them. They don’t die. Also Alex has step to plate which is great to see.We are truly fortune to have Mark Teixera as our First basement.I know its only has rookie season with us boy his glove truly stand out and due time me be consider a Yankee great. Also for Jeter & Marino as well the boss be great if they could win one more. The boss has brought great players we Yankees fan are very grateful but saw back in 2001 that did see like his old self hope they win one more before his time is up.
We are the New Yankee’s fans,
Adam
