Remember Ross Ohlendorf? Sure you do, he was sent to Pittsburgh in the Nady/Marte deal in 2008. After a decent 2009 season starting for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Ohlendorf is taking a different course this offseason as compared to other Major League players.
Apparently, Ohlendorf in his quest to further educate himself, is interning at the United States Department of Agriculture. Ohlendorf and his father currently run a longhorn cattle business in Austin, Texas. That combined with his growing interest in how the government works made this an opportunity he wanted to explore.
Ohlendorf has been afforded multiple opportunities to attend events with some important people during his short time in the nation’s capital. He was afforded the chance to attend an event at a local elementary school with Michelle Obama which aimed at promoting healthy eating among children.
It’s always good to see ex-Yankees making the best of their abilities outside the game. Considering I live in Washington DC, maybe if I wander around long enough if I’ll run into him…
