It became official today, Derek Jeter became Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year. I guess the rumor from a few days ago was infact true, regardless of how vague it seemed.
There are some individuals that believed Jeter did not deserve this even though he passed Luis Aparicio for most hits all time by a shortstop, passed Lou Gehrig for most hits all time by a Yankee and then was awarded the 2009 Roberto Clemente award.
Considering all of that, I believe this award is justly due and he is the first New York Yankees to be rewarded with such award. Congrats goes to the Captain!
