“We have to try to get one more starter. I think that Cashman knows it. I think it’s a priority for us,’’ Posada told Sweeny Murti and Ed Coleman today on WFAN Radio. “Hopefully, we can get that.’‘
So, wait, what is he saying…Does he not think Sergio Mitre and Chad Guadin can’t be our 4th and 5th starters? Ok, I kid a little, but there is something else at play here. With Jorge saying this it appears as if he doesn’t have confidence in either Phil Hughes or Joba Chamberlain.
While he didn’t say this explicitly, one could read between the lines and assume so. Maybe he didn’t get Cashman’s memo that Hughes and Joba were to be starters?
I’ve got an idea for Posada…Perhaps he should concentrate on calling a better game. Since 2003 his Catchers ERA (Earned-run average of club’s pitchers with a particular catcher behind the plate) has averaged 4.57 with last year being the highest at 5.05. Or should we just have Cervelli or Montero catch full time now….
