According to Ken Davidoff, the Yankees and Nick Johnson are wrapping up a one-year deal for about $5.5 million. Pending a physical.
It’s nice to have him back. It’s always nice to have a player with one of the highest OBP (.426) in all of Major League Baseball. Only Joe Mauer (.444) and Albert Pujols (.443) rank ahead of him.
Is this the end of Johnny Damon’s tenure with the Yankees? Will they get both of them? We’ll have to wait and see.

Great move. More leverage against that penny pincher Damon.
Is this the end for damon though? Doesnt this go against the whole flexible thing. Word is this signing is also in case Tex *knock on wood* goes down? Well dont we have a firstbaseman in Nick Swisher. Well you say whos going to play right, well Melky would. Well then what about left? Damon would. That is why resigning Damon is the more flexible move because you could sit Melky if hes slumping, put Damon in right, open up the DH spot for Posada. Some body tell me im wrong that the more flexible move is resigning Damon. I hope this isnt it for Damon and Johnson is just a guy that is going to be a huge part coming off the bench but is going to see more playing time than an average bench player.
Your right, I don’t think Girardi bought into the whole rotating DH thing though. He specifically asked for a DH only type bat. Ask and you shall receive.
Hopefully when its all said and done damon will have re-upped with the Yanks, accepting 2 year 20 mil deal.
I hate bringing back players from the loser years.
What made it the loser years was the Yankees trading every scrap of minor league talent (such as Johnson) for players past their prime.
