- Ken Davidoff’s Tweet indicates that the Yankees offered 2 years for $14 million to Damon and Boras wants 2 years for $26 million. Damon countered with 2 years and $22 million and the Yankees declined.
- Nick Johnson will take a physical on Monday. His contract is for 1 year and about $5 million. However, incentives could raise it to $6 million. Buster Olney reports that there is a mutual option for a second year.
- Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports: the Yankees will focus on pitching now. They’re interested in DeRosa, but Rosenthal hears that his asking price (three years and $18-21MM) is too high for the Yanks.
I’m guessing when they say pitching it might be Justin Duschscherer or Ben Sheets. Hopefully Sheets will lower his asking price and the Yankees can get him for a steal. Also, it seems as Damon is realizing he might want to wear pinstripes next year, but I don’t think he’ll come down low enough for the Yankees to agree. I guess we’ll see Damon in another uniform next year. Mark DeRosa? I’d rather not get older. Am I right?

Forget DeRosa. Just resign Hairston. We could probably sign him cheap on a 1 or 2 yr deal and he adds similar flexibility, plus has proven he can excel in NY.
I wouldn’t mind having Hinske back either. He did well here and is flexible. Again I bet he could be signed cheap on a 1yr deal.
Also, sign Sheets and Chapman.
The bench as it is has no power. I agree we need Hinske back.
That price is too high, DeRosa is a glorified bench player. Spend the money on Sheets and Chapman.
It seems like Damon did want to remain a Yankee, I’ve read he was willing to go as low as 2 for 20 mill at one point but the Yankees stuck to their guns.
2 for 20 really was reasonable considering Abreu got 2 for 19 and Cameron 2 for 14, Damon is better than both of those guys.
I feel bad for the guy now that the dust is starting to settle and hes not in pinstripes.
