Robinson Cano has had a season that caught many fans by surprise. Some even think that he deserves a Gold Glove. Not only has he been great at the plate, but he’s played a terrific 2nd base this season.
This is what girardi had to say…
“I look at Robbie and he has had a great year offensively,” Girardi said of his second baseman, who is hitting .321 with 24 homers and 80 RBIs after swatting an opposite-field homer in yesterday’s 3-0 win over the Red Sox.
“I think he has had a Gold Glove second-base year as well. The plays he has made, whether to his left or right, turning double plays and fly balls he has caught running down the line. It’s important because I consider Robbie to be a great player.”
The Gold Glove voting is done by the managers.

I’d vote for him, but for some reason I don’t think hes going to win it. I’m afraid that his “lazy” reputation that hes disproven this season will still come to critics mind. I hope other managers take notice of how easy he makes hard plays make. Where other 2nd basemen are sprawling out after balls he can just glide over and throw from just about any angle. He might just be making it look too easy.
I don’t think there’s any chance Cano deserves the gold glove this season. While I have watched nearly every Yankees’ game this season, and Cano has looked pretty good, I haven’t seen every other second baseman play.
Because of this, I have to go by the stats. All of the main defensive ratings have quite a few second baseman above Cano, so I have a hard time believing Cano was really the best second basemen in the American League. No way he deserves a gold golve.
I agree with both of you guys. I think Cano has played a good second base, but I really haven’t see the rest of the league. Maybe there are better ones out there. This is definitely the best Cano we’ve seen.
As Girardi said..his “lazy” rep my hurt him. We’ll see how things play out.

He’s been solid this season, but I see him more of a Jeter type defensively – he’s holds his own and never makes himself look bad, but he doesn’t have the range and reflexes some guys do that put them out in front of the pack. Good not great, he wouldn’t get a gold glove vote from me.
