If anything was kind to David Robertson in 2009, it was the postseason. He earned the nickname ‘Houdini’ for coming into situations with men on base and was asked to get out of it. Each time he did and Yankees fans pumped their fist in unison — or close to it. After his performance in the playoffs and his relatively strong relief work in 2009, it is easy to say that he will be a fixture in the bullpen in 2010.
Looking Ahead to 2010: In the postseason, it seemed David wasn’t as bad with his command as he was in the regular season (23 BB’s, 1 HBP, and 6 Wild Pitches in 43.2 innings), so it might be likely that Robertson could be looking at a season with less BB/9 than in 2009 (4.7). Considering his ‘Houdini’ antics in the postseason, I can see Robertson at time sharing the duties as the bridge to Mariano with Joba/Phil.
2010 Projection: 58 games, 3.80 ERA, 75 strikeouts.
