The Mets miss out on another player. Derek Lowe was the best free agent pitcher left on the market in my opinion. He puts up consistent numbers and he stays healthy. A four-year, $60M contract sounds like a a lot of money, but he is deserving. People may come out and say that he doesn’t deserve it, but when you look at the numbers he put up and the amount of money other pitchers are making…you will change your mind. General managers set the bar so high when they offer terrible contracts to bad pitchers. The Mets are going to now have to watch out for the Braves. They now have: Lowe, Vazquez, Jurrjens, Hudson, Kawakami, Campillo. The deal will be official once he passes a physical.
Jerry Crasnick: Sources: Braves, Lowe agree on deal:
The Atlanta Braves and pitcher Derek Lowe have reached preliminary agreement on a four-year, $60 million contract, baseball sources told ESPN.com.
The deal is pending a physical exam, a source said. Braves general manager Frank Wren declined comment in an e-mail to ESPN.com.
