The 2009 starting lineup is going to be better then last year. There is no doubt about it. We all can say this guy is going to get injured..blah blah blah, but the truthis nobody really knows what will happen. As of now everyone looks to be healthy and ready for the 2009 season. The constant injuries last season made the run production drop last year, and I just don’t see that happening again. The horrible hitting display with runners in scoring position didn’t help either. I look at it this way. Can it really get worse then it did last year? I mean A-Rod, Damon, Matsui, and Posada were out for extended periods of time. A-Rod wasn’t clutch at all. Melky was a huge disappointment. Cano wasn’t himself. Jeter didn’t have such a great season either.
Of course we lost Giambi and Abreu, but we added Mark Teixeira. Tex..along with a healthy Posada and Matsui should really be an upgrade from last year.
Starting Lineup:

Johnny Damon, Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira, Alex Rodriguez, Hideki Matsui, Jorge Posada, Xavier Nady, Robinson Cano, Brett Gardner/Melky Cabrera

The rotation will be improved as well. On paper..it is arguably the best rotation in baseball. With 3 proven aces, one potential ace, and a #5 question mark. The 5th spot is still up in the air. It will most likely be given to either Pettitte or Hughes. Sabathia was the ’07 AL CY Young award winner and pretty much carried the Brewers into the playoffs last season. Wang was the winningest pitcher in baseball in 2006 and 2007, combining for 38 wins. A.J. Burnett is coming off one of his best seasons yet, and managed to stay healthy all year. He said Roy Halladay told him that he doesn’t need to throw his hardest all the time, but put more movement on the ball. A.J. said that was the main reason he was able to stay healthy last year. Joba Chamberlain is a power pitcher with the capability of becoming a #1 starter. He was injured last year, but in the games he started..he was very successful. The last spot in the rotation will most likely be filled in by Phil Franchise or Pettitte. Pettitte was horrible down the stretch last year, but he was injured. I can see him putting up much better numbers next year if he came back. Hughes can only be better. He didn’t record one win last year, and posted a 6.62ERA. He came back towards the end of the year and dominated in the two starts he made. Phil also pitched really well in the Arizona Fall League. I only see things getting better for Phil in 2009. If he doesn’t improve..I will be shocked.
Rotation:

CC Sabathia, Chien-Ming Wang, A.J. Burnett, Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes/Andy Pettitte

Peter Abraham: The roster at the moment
Ken Davidoff: Thirteen things I think I think about the Yankees’ acquisition of Mark Teixeira

Can’t forget about Aceves for the 5th spot as well, he did nothing but impress last season
I agree. I should have mentioned it. I believe that Hughes and Pettitte are the favorites for the spot though. Only time will tell..
WE STILL NEED MANNY.
WITHOUT MANNY THE OFFSEASONS IS A WASTE.
WE HAVE 2 GOOD BATS..
WE NEED 1 MORE.
OUR CENTERFIELD POSITION IS GARBAGE.
NADY SUX.
DAMON IS FALLING OFF.
JETER CANT HIT HOMERUNS TO SAVE HIS LIFE.
MATSUI AND JORGE ARE UNKNOWNS NOW.
BOTH INJURED, AND THEIR STATS HAVE FALLEN.
MANNY IS A MUST HAVE.
WE WANT HIM.
HE WANTS US.
IT WOULD BE THE BEST MOVE THE TEAM MAKES ALL OFFSEASON.
EQUAL TO GETTING TEIXEIRA.
THE PITCHERS I DONT CARE ABOUT,
THEY ONLY PLAY ONCE EVERY 5 DAYS.
GIMMIE EVERYDAY BALLERS.
MANNY, TEIXEIRA, AND AROD IN THE 3, 4, 5 HOLE.
MURDERERS ROW.
I agree with Jeremy Yanks have to get Manny
I would give up Matsui or Damon
what about nick swisher, will he play center field?
The Yanks don’t like the way he plays in CF so the answer is no.
The yankees dont NEED manny
it would be nice dont get me wrong. But i think we will be fine this year. adding texiria, Burnet, and C.C will help out big time..
and call me crazy but i think cano is gonna quietly have a monster year..
and posada will be fine at the plate.. not so much behind it
and melky will make big plays in the field .. and have good speed in the 9 hole
this is our year
If Pettitte does not work out the Yanks should get Ben Sheets. Although he is fragile, the reward is great. Sheets healthy, Sheets dominant.
Ok let me tell you what I think, Jeremy i’m sorry but you are wrong, i know you don’t care about pitching but that in the end is gonna win championchips, Manny would be a waste hes gonna want more money towards the end of his contract and he’ll be a waste who won’t play until he gets what he wants, another thing CC is dominant against the Orioles (a team the yanks had trouble beating) Brunett has great numbers against the red sox another team the yankees has trouble againt, they wont have to face brunett in Toronto because hes here, also the yankees are fine in the outfeild Damon has about a year left and hes done, Nady did Great last year, Melky will do fine just see. One thing the Yankees need is a Catcher, not a great one just one who can catch and throw the ball, Defense the offense is stacked. Having all these high paid hitters will do bad because players will complain about their spot in the line up. Just see how the season goes before more transactions go through. Anyway Sheets is too fragile and Pettite has had one bad half soo what hes been dominate for a long time you willl all see he will come around
